Selling Slow Boats to a Faster Crowd

Imagine a day of boating on Tampa Bay fueled for $1. That's the promise from a new company building electric boats
that get power from a wall outlet.

"This is going to be the only Florida-based manufacturer of electric boats and probably the only one making hybrids at
all," said David Rich, who orchestrated the financing for Vision Boatworks.

The company took its maiden voyage Monday in a 24-foot craft of its own design. Workers later shrink-wrapped the
craft for a trip to the Green Festival in Chicago.

After the festival, it will be delivered to a customer there. Six boats were sold before the first one came off the
